Management Team


Bonfils’ management team is comprised of seasoned professionals from both healthcare and nonprofit backgrounds. Among them are decades of education and practical experience.

 

Thomas C. Puckett
President and Chief Executive Officer
Thomas C. Puckett, a healthcare executive with more than 30 years of experience in hospital and healthcare management and leadership roles, was named president and chief executive officer of Bonfils Blood Center in January 2007 after serving half of his career as the blood center’s administrator and chief operating officer. His experience in leadership positions has contributed to the company’s positive public perception in the community.

Puckett received his bachelor’s degree from Kansas State College, a master’s degree from Keller Graduate School of Management, certifications in medical technology and clinical chemistry and diplomat status in the American College of Healthcare Executives. He also served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Army Reserves for 23 years and retired as a colonel in the Medical Service Corps.

Since moving to Colorado in 1991, Puckett has served on many community boards and committees including 9Cares, Colorado Shares, 9Who Care board of governors, Project Open Hearts and Mile High Rotary as well as on the Flight For Life Advisory Board. Puckett served as a member of the board and as board chairman for Hospital Shared Services, Inc. and most recently was selected to serve on the board of the National Blood Foundation and on the nominating committee of board for the AABB (formerly American Association of Blood Banks).

Mark Allen
Vice President of Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs

Mark Allen joined Bonfils Blood Center as the vice president of quality assurance and regulatory affairs in July 2007 bringing with him more than 20 years of expertise in systems validation, preventative and corrective action, process engineering, auditing and compliance. Prior to joining Bonfils, Allen was the director of regulatory affairs and quality assurance for NetRegulus, Inc. where he was responsible for developing quality, regulatory and clinical software applications for the life sciences. Allen has also worked as a regulatory/quality consultant for many top medical device firms in addition to operating his own medical device company.

Allen earned a bachelor's degree in public administration from Metropolitan State College in Denver. An active member of both the Regulatory Affairs Professional Society and the American Society for Quality, Allen possesses a regulatory affairs certification and a quality manager certification from each organization respectively. Allen is also a speaker, presenter and published author on a variety of quality and regulatory topics.

Anne Burtchaell, CPA
Chief Financial Officer and Vice President of Finance and Administration

Anne Burtchaell brings more than 10 years experience in accounting and finance functions in both manufacturing and healthcare related service industries to her dual role as CFO and vice president of Finance and Administration for Bonfils Blood Center.

A third generation Colorado native, Burtchaell received a bachelor’s degree in business administration with an emphasis in accounting and finance from the University of Colorado. Burtchaell has also served as treasurer for the local chapter of the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.

Jessica Maitland
Vice President of Marketing and Community Operations

As Bonfils Blood Center’s vice president of marketing and community operations, Jessica Maitland is responsible for statewide marketing, media relations, donor recruitment and retention and oversight of the blood center’s community donor center and mobile blood drive operations. She has more than 10 years experience in healthcare communications with an emphasis and passion for the nonprofit sector.

Maitland obtained a bachelor’s and master’s degree in English from Arizona State University. She recently finished a two-year term as board president for the Donor Awareness Council, a local coalition promoting organ and tissue donation.

Leslie Strate
Executive Director of Bonfils Blood Center Foundation

Leslie Strate joined Bonfils Blood Center in May 2007 as the executive director of Bonfils Blood Center Foundation - the fundraising arm of the blood center. Prior to joining Bonfils Strate was vice president of St. Anthony Health Foundation where she was responsible for the St. Anthony Central's capital, endowment and major gift fundraising as well as all development and fundraising activities for Flight For Life Colorado.

Strate received a bachelor's degree from Stanford University in Stanford, Calif. and a master's degree in nonprofit management from Regis University in Denver. She is also an active member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, the Association of Healthcare Philanthropy and currently serves as vice president on the board of directors for Denver Children's Home.

Mark Thompson
Chief Information Officer and Vice President

Mark Thompson has been a member of Bonfils’ staff since 1991. Today he directs the blood center’s information technology operations in addition to overseeing donor testing, quality control and reference laboratories. Thompson is also responsible for the management of Bonfils’ donor qualification, donor relations and specialized donation departments.


Prior to joining Bonfils, Thompson spent more than 15 years with Denver’s St. Anthony Hospital Systems working in the clinical laboratory and the hospital blood bank. He also spent more than 10 years specializing in quality control for the laboratories. Thompson received degrees in microbiology and medical technology from Colorado State University and is a certified medical technologist.
