Hemo-Net

Hemo-Net is an application service provider (ASP) with an emphasis on blood donor management and transfusion medicine software applications, providing support to Bonfils Blood Center as well as six other blood centers across the country.  As a subsidiary of Bonfils Blood Center, Hemo-Net has evolved from more than 60 years of experience and knowledge in the blood banking industry.

Hemo-Net provides Bonfils and other partners with a complete donor management system that offers safe and secure storage of all donor records and unit tracking from recruitment and collections to final distribution.

The true value of Hemo-Net’s services was exemplified through its partnership with The Blood Center, the primary supplier of blood products to hospitals throughout South Louisiana and parts of the Mississippi Gulf Coast.  In 2005, Hurricane Katrina knocked out 16 of The Blood Center’s 17 collection sites, including the central testing and distribution facility.  The center’s onsite computer infrastructure and all of the related services were also unavailable, yet, as a result of The Blood Center’s partnership with Hemo-Net, their crucial donor information and system for managing and tracking the local blood supply remained secure and unaffected.  This information was maintained and supported by Hemo-Net at two redundant data centers in Denver.

“The ability to begin collecting blood less than two months after the hurricane is largely due to Hemo-Net,” says Todd Barrett, vice president of finance and information systems of The Blood Center.  “The ASP model eliminated the need to restore, re-install or revalidate the software.”
