Stop and Give
Bonfils Blood Center Turned Tragedy into Hope .gif)
The community turned out to support Laurie Sherlock, whose unborn child was killed in December 2010 in a still unsolved hit-and-run tragedy in Denver's Stapleton neighborhood. More than 1,700 people donated blood with Bonfils during the first annual Stop and Give campaign from Nov. 27 through Dec. 10 to raise awareness about the importance of blood donation and safe driving.
A longtime advocate of blood donation, Laurie organized many successful platelet drives while studying at Emory University in Atlanta. After years of effort to raise awareness and recruit blood and platelet donors, Laurie herself became a recipient of more than 30 blood and platelet transfusions in the surgeries following the accident. Thanks to selfless blood donors and expert medical care, Laurie has regained her health and is now building a campaign with her husband Pete to promote the awareness about blood donations and honor those affected by reckless driving.
