Bonfils Blood Center Asks Colorado Community to Donate to Support National Blood Donor Month
Give something that means something
Denver, Colo (Jan. 10, 2013) – This month Bonfils Blood Center invites you to give something that means something and celebrate National Blood Donor Month by making an appointment to donate blood.
During the winter months, donations drop by about 20 percent as compared to the rest of the year and this can be attributed to poor weather and road conditions as well as the cold and flu season.
“We’re asking community members to come out this month to any one of our seven donor centers or visit one of the 10 mobile drives we have each day and donate blood,” Vice President of Marketing and Community Development Jessica Maitland says. “In particular we’d like to see donors who have the O negative blood type. O- is the universal blood type meaning it can be used for patients with any blood type in emergency situations and is more frequently utilized.”
Community support is vital to maintaining the state’s blood supply. Currently only 4 percent of eligible Coloradoans donate blood and a majority of Colorado’s blood supply comes from Bonfils. One single blood donation can save and enhance the lives of up to three patients.
Donating blood is a safe, easy and free way you can give back to your community and Bonfils strives to make donating as convenient as possible. Call Bonfils' Appointment Center at 303.363.2300 or 800.365.0006, opt. 2 or schedule an appointment online to give blood.
2013 marks the 70th anniversary of Bonfils Blood Center’s presence in this community as one of Colorado’s top nonprofit healthcare organizations. Through seven decades of service, we’re proud to have become a trusted community resource and source of hope for those in their time of need as well as an outlet for our neighbors wanting to give back through blood, marrow and financial donations. In order to meet the needs of the nearly 200 healthcare facilities we serve and to be prepared for unexpected events Bonfils must collect more than 3,000 blood donations each week.
