DENVER (January 24, 2005) - Searching for that unique gift for your loved one this Valentine’s Day? Instead of giving flowers or candy, donate blood in your sweetheart’s name. Your gift of blood and your pledge to donate bone marrow, organs and tissue on or around Monday, Feb. 14 supports Saturn National Donor Day and provides hope for patients in need. Bonfils Blood Center and other blood centers across the country joined forces with Saturn for the eighth annual National Donor Day – the largest single-day nationwide donation drive.
At select drives this February, blood donors will receive a Saturn teddy bear and can fill out a special Valentine card in the recognition of the person for whom the donor gave blood. Representatives from the Colorado Marrow Donor Program, Donor Awareness Council, American Liver Foundation and the National Kidney Foundation will be on hand at these blood drives to provide information and to sign people up for the marrow and organ and tissue registries.
Participating Metro area Saturn National Donor Day blood drives include:
MONDAY, FEB. 7
-
Saturn of Highlands Ranch, 6828 E. County Line Road, Highlands Ranch from 2 p.m. to 3:10 p.m. and 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.
-
Cherry Creek North Bus (Sponsored by Saturn of Highlands Ranch in partnership with Cherry Creek North and Janus), Fillmore Plaza at 2nd Ave. and Fillmore St.
MONDAY, FEB. 14
-
Saturn North, 2600 West 104th Avenue, Federal Heights from 2 to 3:10 p.m. and 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.
-
Saturn and Value Car of Pueblo, 1100 North Santa Fe Avenue from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
THURSDAY, FEB. 17
MONDAY, FEB. 21
In the last seven years, Saturn and their partners have added more than 9,000 people to the National Marrow Donor Registry, collected nearly 50,000 units of blood and solicited millions more to become organ and tissue donors.
Hosting National Donor Day in February also helps blood centers nationwide to boost their blood supply in a time when blood donations typically decline due to weather changes and increased accidents.
Bonfils Blood Center supplies blood to more than 115 healthcare facilities and needs to collect 4,350 blood donations weekly to meet the needs of the community and to be prepared for any unexpected events. For information about scheduling a blood donation, please visit www.bonfils.org or call (303) 363-2300.
