DENVER (April 4, 2005) - America’s Blood Centers (ABC), North America’s largest network of nonprofit community blood centers, presented the Denver Broncos Football Club with the National Humanitarian Service Award yesterday at its 8th Annual Awards of Excellence program in Washington. The Denver Broncos were nominated for the award by Bonfils Blood Center, a member of ABC, for their dedicated involvement in Colorado’s largest single-day community blood drive, Drive for Life.
“We couldn’t be more pleased about the recognition bestowed on our partner,” said Jessica Maitland, senior vice president of Bonfils Blood Center. “The involvement from all levels of the Denver Broncos Football Club has led directly to thousands of blood donations for the Colorado community through the years.”
Bonfils’ relationship with the Denver Broncos began in 1998. Over the last seven years Drive for Life has grown from 1,100 to more than 2,600 blood donors that come out to support our community’s blood supply.
“Drive for Life has grown into one of Denver's best Broncos traditions,” said Cindy Galloway, vice president of community development, Denver Broncos Football Club. “We look forward to fostering the tradition by helping patients in need throughout our state for many years to come.”
Bonfils Blood Center supplies blood to more than 115 healthcare facilities and needs to collect 4,350 blood donations weekly to meet the needs of the community and to be prepared for any unexpected events.
