DENVER (May 26, 2005) - Fort Lupton High School was recently named the Bonfils Blood Center High School Student Body Challenge champion, with the highest number of donors based on a school’s population of eligible blood donors.
Fort Lupton High School was one of 113 Colorado high schools that participated in the challenge during the 2004-2005 school year and did their part to support Colorado’s blood supply and the community. The yearlong competition encourages and inspires young adults to become life-long blood donors and awards prizes to winning schools.
Warren Tech High School in Denver won the Most First Time Donors Award with 107 students donating for the first time at their school blood drive. The Greatest Improvement Award recipient was Salida High School. Additionally, every student at a participating high school had the opportunity to register to win a trip, sponsored by Comcast, to visit the MTV studios in New York. A winner chosen in a random drawing will be announced next month.
Bonfils Blood Center supplies blood to more than 115 healthcare facilities and needs to collect 4,350 blood donations weekly to meet the needs of the community and to be prepared for any unexpected events. For information about scheduling a blood donation, please visit www.bonfils.org or call (303) 363-2300 or (800) 365.0006 option 2.
