Bonfils Blood Center

DENVER (January 30, 2006) - Blackjack Pizza Vice President Larry Schmuhl presented Bonfils Blood Center Foundation with a check for $8,842.40 last Tuesday, Jan. 24. The blood center was selected by Blackjack Pizza franchisees as the beneficiary of the locally based 80 Cent Pizza Promotion for the month of November 2005. The 80 Cent Pizza promotion spokesman and Denver Broncos Wide Receiver Rod Smith, is also spokesperson and supporter of Bonfils’ largest single-day community blood drive, Drive for Life. Other Blackjack beneficiaries include the Colorado Sickle Cell Association and The Children’s Hospital.

The three month event (October – December 2005) gave Blackjack Pizza customers the opportunity to bite into a second pizza priced at just 80 cents with all of the proceeds going to charity. In November 2005 alone, more than 11,000 second pizzas were enjoyed by Blackjack Pizza customers from Cheyenne, Wyo. to Pueblo and from Aurora to Lakewood, Colo. in support of the promotion.

The monies donated by Blackjack Pizza will be used to expand testing, reference and research laboratories at Bonfils Blood Center to help keep pace with increased demand for blood and blood products. Funds will also be used to purchase bloodmobiles/shuttles that transport Bonfils’ staff and equipment to businesses and organizations that conduct blood drives. Bonfils Blood Center is Colorado’s community blood center and provides blood to more than 115 healthcare facilities.
