Bonfils Blood Center
February 23, 2006

Dear donor, financial contributor and community partner:

With much respect and gratitude for a history of outstanding service to this community and blood center, the Bonfils Blood Center board of trustees announces the retirement of William C. Dickey, M.D., Bonfils Blood Center president, CEO and medical director.

As the leader of the blood center for the last 16 years and a member of its board of trustees for more than 20 years, Dr. Dickey has made a profound impact on the industry he has served. We are grateful to Dr. Dickey for his breadth of service, leadership and dedication to the organization.

When Dr. Dickey took the helm, Bonfils was an organization that routinely imported blood products to meet our state’s needs. More than 15 years later, Dr. Dickey and Bonfils’ talented staff have created an environment in which none of our Colorado healthcare partners ever experience a blood shortage. In addition, we are now able to support other parts of the country and even the military when called upon. Bonfils was the first blood center to send blood to New York after the Sept. 11 attacks, sent more than 750 units to the hurricane-battered Gulf Coast Region last summer and on three separate occasions supported the military’s blood needs.

Additionally, we are delighted to announce that Michael Bauer, M.D., has accepted the interim position of medical director for the organization. Dr. Bauer has served as associate medical director for Bonfils Blood Center and Laboratories at Bonfils since 2002 and brings 15 years of outstanding technical expertise to the position. His leadership, insight, skills and professional strengths will serve the blood center and our community well.

As Dr. Dickey moves toward his retirement date in March, we will continue to keep our donors and partners informed of the leadership succession plan. Together throughout the next several weeks and months, the board of trustees, Dr. Bauer and Bonfils’ senior management team will work to ensure a smooth transition of leadership and a continued firm commitment to fulfilling Bonfils Blood Center’s mission of saving and enhancing lives.

Sincerely,

James A. Dierker

Chairman, Bonfils Blood Center Board of Trustees
