HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
STATE CAPITOL
DENVER
80203
State Rep. Spencer Swalm, R-Centennial, has donated more than five gallons of blood to Bonfils Blood Center over the past 30 years.
Today he will stand side by side with a five-year-old boy named William who received unit after unit of blood from Bonfils during his fight against cancer.
“Donating blood truly does save lives,” Swalm said.
Swalm and Sen. Nancy Spence, also R-Centennial, will stand with William and his family and present a legislative tribute to Bonfils CEO and President Tom Puckett for the organization’s more than 60 years of service to Colorado.
Following their presentation, Swalm will roll up his sleeves and become the first person of the day to donate blood.
“It is important that we understand how many lives can be saved just through this simple act,” Swalm said. “I am hopeful that by bringing this blood drive to the capitol, we can not only give blood, but can also help increase awareness about the importance of donating.”
Swalm will also present a resolution on the House floor later today to raise public awareness of the critical need not only for blood, but also for marrow, organ, and tissue donation. Swalm is the sponsor of House Resolution 1010, recognizing April as Donate Life Month.
The tribute presentation will take place at 9:45 this morning on the west side of the capitol in front of the Bonfils “Lifeliner” Bus, followed by blood donations by lawmakers and capitol staff beginning at 10 a.m.
The bus will be parked by the West Steps all day, accommodating up to 50 donors from 10:00 a.m. to 10:40 a.m. and from 12:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. |
