Bonfils Blood Center Turns 65

State and city officials to recognizeblood center anniversary at state capitol Feb. 27

DENVER  (Feb. 20, 2008) – Sixty-five years, 3 million blood donations, 9 million lives saved. These accomplishments were made possible through the support of blood donors, blood drive hosts, healthcare partners, financial contributors, volunteers, employees and the community-at-large. Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2008 marks Bonfils Blood Center’s 65th anniversary which will be commemorated with congratulatory remarks from State Rep. Spencer Swalm, R-Centennial, and Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper on the west steps of the Colorado State Capitol beginning at 8:30 a.m.

“As a public official and seven-gallon blood donor, I am proud to recognize Bonfils Blood Center for 65 years of successful stewardship of Colorado’s community blood supply,” asserted Rep. Swalm. “Our community must also be applauded for its contributions to the success of the blood center over the years.”

Bonfils invites the community to celebrate the blood center’s 65th anniversary by giving blood to support patients throughout Colorado and beyond. Special treats will be offered in the canteen for donors giving blood at Bonfils’ mobile blood drives and community donor centers across the state on Feb. 27.

“Bonfils has prospered under the leadership of our medical community and the guidance of the community board of trustees and the thousands of employees through the years that set and maintain the focus of our resources,” said Tom Puckett, president and CEO of Bonfils Blood Center. “Together, with the trust and confidence of our community and blood donors, can we live up to our mission of saving and enhancing lives and ensure our place in Colorado’s history for another 65 years.”

Although only about four percent of Coloradans give blood, we all have a stake in ensuring a safe and readily available blood supply for our community.
